Apple’s Wallet app is a free app that comes pre-installed on all modern iPhone models. This first-party finance app can be used to add debit and credit cards, store membership cards, and pay for online and offline purchases.
The iPhone Wallet app can also be used to use and redeem credit from Apple Music, Apple iTunes, and Apple gift cards, but the process can be a little confusing, depending on what exactly you want to do with your gift cards and where you want to spend your account balance.
How to Add the App Store & iTunes Pass to the iPhone Wallet App
The App Store & iTunes Pass, sometimes called the iTunes Pass, is a kind of official Apple digital membership card that can be added to the Wallet app. Once added, the App Store & iTunes Pass can display your account balance, which includes funds added from a gift card, and for adding credit to it in an Apple Store.
Here’s how to add the App Store & iTunes Pass to the Wallet app on your iPhone.
Open the App Store on your iPhone, then tap your account profile image in the top-right corner.
Tap Redeem Gift Card or Code.
Under the iTunes Pass, tap Get Started.
Enter your Apple ID password, then tap OK.
Tap Add iTunes Pass to Wallet.
Tap Add.
Tap Done. The App Store & iTunes Pass will now appear within the Wallet app.
With your digital App Store & iTunes Pass created, you can now use the iPhone Wallet app to add funds to your iTunes or App Store account the next time you go to a physical Apple Store.
Open the Wallet app on your iPhone or iPad.
Tap the App Store & iTunes card within the Wallet app. This will open your App Store & iTunes Pass and display its unique QR code.
Show your phone with the App Store & iTunes Pass displayed to an Apple Store employee and let them know how much you'd like to add to your account.
You'll then need to pay the employee the chosen amount. They will scan the QR code on your App Store & iTunes Pass in the Wallet app.
The amount should be added to your App Store & iTunes Pass balance almost immediately after the transaction has been completed.
The iPhone Wallet app can also be used to add money to your Apple account by making a direct payment.
Open the Wallet app on your iPhone, then tap the App Store & iTunes Pass.
- Tap the ellipsis in the top-right corner.
- Tap Add Funds to Apple ID.
Tap the amount you want to add.
Tap Next.
- Double-click the Side Button on the right side of your iPhone to add the funds to your App Store & iTunes Pass.
The available account balance on the App Store & iTunes Pass will update.
While you can’t use the Wallet app itself to redeem an iTunes, Apple Music, or App Store gift card, the Wallet app can be used to view your account balance within the App Store & iTunes Pass.
Here’s how to redeem your Apple gift card on an iPhone and use its balance in the Wallet app.
Remove your iTunes or App Store gift card from its packaging.
Turn the gift card over so you can see its back.
Carefully remove the gray film along the top of the card to reveal its unique code.
Unlock your iPhone and open the App Store app.
Tap your account profile image in the top-right corner of the screen.
Tap Redeem Gift Card or Code.
Tap Use Camera.
Position your gift card in front of the camera so it can read the code.
The card should register immediately and the credit will be added to your account balance.
You can now view your added gift card balance within the Wallet app on the App Store & iTunes Pass.
